In a bid to further its commitment towards the advancement of sports and empowerment of youth, NDB Bank has partnered with the Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) as the Main Sponsor of the MCA "C" division 50 Over League Tournament for the third consecutive year.
An event commemorating the partnership was held on 19th July at The MCA Legends Wing. The event was graced by NDB Personal Banking & Customer Experience Senior Vice President Sanjaya Perera, NDB Assistant Vice President Marketing Darshana Jayasinghe, Mahesh De Alwis Senior Vice President MCA, Rohan Somawansa Assistant Secretary & Chairman of Sponsorship Committee, Lakmal De Silva Chairman Tournament Committee, and a number of representatives from the media and press.
The MCA "C" division 50 Over League Tournament will consist of seven contesting teams. The teams vying for the coveted "NDB" Trophy are: David Pieris Group of Companies "A", Nawaloka Hospitals PLC, Hemas Holdings, Commercial Bank PLC "A", Airport & Aviation Services, DFCC Bank, and LOLC Holdings.
The League stage of the tournament is played in a single group round robin consisting of 21 matches that commenced on the 24th June and will conclude on 30th July 2023. At the conclusion of the league, the four top emerging teams will advance to the semi-finals, followed by the finals, which will take place on 12th August 2023, at the MCA grounds.
Commenting at the event, NDB Personal Banking & Customer Experience SVP Sanjaya Perera stated that the development of sports and the empowerment of youth are part of the progress of any country, and therefore it is important that the field of sports is extended the support it requires. He further added that "Sports inculcate discipline, build character, and foster comradeship. People are molded to play as a team, to respect rules, and to encourage team unity and sportsmanship".
